Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour in Nepal is a short journey to some of remarkable sites in Nepal offering you a golden opportunity to get the insights and explore the philosophy, life history and teachings of Lord Buddha. Though Nepal is known as holiest Hindu country in the world, the influences of Buddhism are all-encompassing in most of the Nepali culture. Being the birthplace of the Lord Buddha, Nepal has gained recognition as being a holy pilgrimage for Buddhism. Lumbini is the highlight of this tour but you will be taken to famous and important Buddhist Sites inside the Kathmandu Valley and the Pokhara city.

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival Day

Our Airport Representative will greet you at Tribhuwan International Airport and transfer you to your respective hotels. After check-in and some rest, you will be taken to the main touristic hub in the city for a short introduction tour. Your trip guide will briefly give information about your trip in the evening.

Day 02: Kathmandu’s Buddhist Sites

The capital of Nepal, Kathmandu is a culturally diverse city and is also called “City of Temples” as it has more than 2000 temples. The valley has some of the most important Buddhist sites and you will be visiting them today.

Boudhanath Stupa is situated 8km to the east of downtown Kathmandu Valley. Listed in UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the stupa is the biggest monastery in Nepal and is one of the biggest in the World and is visible as soon as you land at the airport. Built in the 8th century in Mandala shape, the stupa reflects Tibetan Buddhism and is one of the impressive landmarks in Nepal. 

Kopan Monastery is one of the popular Gompas of Tibetan Buddhism located at a hill north of Boudhanath. Many monks and nuns can be seen here meditating and studying. The monastery also provides 5 days, 10 days, and month-long courses about mind training, karma, death, and many more for the interested people.

Phulhari Monastery is less than one hour hike from Kopan Gumba. The monastery is designed by an American architect who was also a Buddhist monk combining the best of both western and eastern architecture. Fascinating Thanka paintings beautify the entire façade and the interiors of the halls.

Day 03:Drive to Lumbini

Driving Duration: 8 hours

Early morning you will drive to Swayabhunath Stupa positioned on a hillock 3 kilometers west of the valley. Legend states that Swayambhu was born out of a lotus flower that bloomed in the middle of the lake that spread across the Kathmandu valley. It is one of the holiest Buddhist pilgrimage sited in Nepal. The panoramic view of the valley can be observed from the stupa. 

Soon after breakfast, begin your journey by driving along the roads of Kathmandu to Prithvi Highway. Catch up East-West Highway along with the scenery of different forms of landscapes, small villages, and vegetation. Arrive Lumbini by late afternoon and check-in at the hotel and relax for the rest of your time.

Day 04:Lumbini exploration day

Today is an eventful day and you will be exploring Lumbini full day. Lumbini is one of the holiest pilgrimages in Nepal attracting Buddhist pilgrims from around the world. It is one of the World Heritage Sites with numerous monasteries built by different nations. You will pay a visit to main attractions such as Mayadevi Temple; Lord Buddha’s birthplace, Puskarini Pond; a pond where Mayadevi took her holy bath before giving birth to Buddha, Ashoka Pillar, Myanmar monastery and Lumbini Museum. If time permits, you will visit other monasteries and Tilaurakot Palace, where Lord Buddha had spent his first 29 years of his life as a Prince.

Day 5: Drive to Pokhara

Driving Duration: 6 hours 

Today after breakfast, you will leave behind Lumbini and drive to Pokhara. Driving via Siddhartha Highway, you will encounter many thrilling natural beauties on the route. Upon arrival, you will check-in at the hotel and relax. Stroll around the streets of the city in the evening if you like.

Day 06: Pokhara’s Buddhist Sites

Today you will visit the major Buddhist pilgrimages in Pokhara along with its a natural beauty. 

World Peace Pagoda is a Buddhist pagoda-style monument on Anadu Hill built by a Japanese monk as a symbol of peace. The stupa is also called Shanti Stupa and adds beauty to the Pokhara Valley offering a clear view of the Himalayan ranges, Fewa Lake and the city. Then you will visit Malepatan Monastery in Malepatan. Lastly, you will go hiking to Hyangja, the site where Tibetan refugee Camp sits who fled from Tibet after the Cultural Revolution in China. You will get to explore the culture, tradition, and lifestyle of the Tibetans. 

After sightseeing, you will return to your respective hotel and spend your night there.

Day 07: Drive to Kathmandu

Driving Duration: 7 hours 

As usual, you will start your day by taking breakfast at the hotel. Today you will go for another long yet scenic drive along the riverside, tiny villages, fascinating hills, and mountains through Prithivi Highway to reach the capital, Kathmandu valley. After checking-in at the hotel in Kathmandu, you will have some leisure time relaxing or strolling around the Thamel area.

Day 08: Departure Day

You will be transferred to the airport for your onward destination by a representative from our company 3 hours prior as per your flight schedule.

  1. Valid passport, 2 PP size photos, Airline Tickets
  2. Photocopies of passport, visa form, insurance proof
  3. Cash in dollars for purchasing a visa in the airport
  4. Credit cards, ATM/Bank/Cash Machine Cards for withdrawing funds from  cash machines
