Central Bhutan Cultural Tour

Our Airport Representative will greet you at Tribhuwan International Airport and transfer you to your respective hotels. After check-in and some rest, you will be taken to the main touristic hub in the city for a short introduction tour. Your trip guide will briefly give information about your trip in the evening.

Your flight to Bhutan with Druk Air will be amazing as your plane flies over the Himalayan peaks including the sacred Chomolhari and Jichu Drake peaks in Bhutan. You will be mesmerized by the Bhutanese landscape along with its green and lush mountains, waterfalls, and river valleys. After a short lunch break in Paro, you will head towards the capital, Thimpu. Once you reach the city, you will check in at the hotel and relax for some time. You will explore nearby markets and streets in the evening.

Drive duration: 5 hours 

Today, early in the morning you will drive to Throngsa via Dochula Pass at the elevation of 10,500 ft and Pelela Pass at 11,122 ft offering astounding views of the Himalayan range namely Mount Chomolhari (7314m) also known as “Mountain of the Goddess”. En route, there is Chendebji Chorten where you will stop by to take lunch. Chendebji Chorten was built in the 19^th century by Lama Shida in the pattern of Swayambhunath of Kathmandu to protect the remains of evil spirits that were executed.

Today, you will head towards one of the most beautiful valleys in Bhutan, Bumthang. The valley is situated in the country’s protected area network and is the place with the highest numbers of ancient sacred sites. En route, you will stop by the ancient watchtower of Ta Dzong built-in 1652 which houses the Royal Heritage Museum where the history of the area and the Wangchuk dynasty are highlighted. You will pass by Yuto Pass which is the gateway to Chume valley. By the late afternoon, you will reach Bumthang and will be escorted to your respective hotel.

Today you will spend your whole day exploring the surroundings and many sites in Bumthang Valley. After breakfast, you will visit Ura Valley which is one of the important and sacred sites once visited by Guru Rinpoche 746 AD lying in the highest elevation of the valley i.e. 3100m. Further, you will visit to Kurjey Lakhang where a rock with Guru Rinpoche’s body is imprinted after the powerful Shelging Karpo demon was subdued. You will also visit the glorious Membartsho Lake and Tang Chhu River.

After breakfast, you will Wangdichholing Palace, a summer residence of the Bhutanese King, the dairy farm, the Swiss cheese factory, and the apple juice factory. You can try some of those products and also can purchase to take home. You will take lunch at the hotel in Bumthang and continue your journey towards Throngsa for overnight.

Early morning breakfast and you will get ready to head towards Punakha via Gangtey valley. The valley is bowl-shaped housing the black-necked cranes in winter with more than 600 shy birds that migrate from Tibet in between November and March. The valley is diverse in wildlife and some of the local animals such as muntjac, sambar, serow, and yak can be seen. You will pay a visit to Gangtey Goemba, a monastery of the 17^th century positioned in a hillock overlooking the entire valley. By the later afternoon, you will reach Punakha where you will be escorted to your hotel for overnight.

Drive duration: 4 hours 

Today morning, you will go for a short hike to Chimi Lakhang which was built in 1499 by Ngawang Choegyel, the 4^th Drukpa. Legend states that the site was once blessed by the famous “Divine Madman”, Drukpa Kunley. The monastery is a very important pilgrimage, especially for the women seeking the blessing of fertility.  After lunch at the hotel, you will drive to Paro city. In the evening, you will explore the surroundings.

Morning breakfast and you will hike for around 4-5 hours to the famous monastery of Bhutan Takstang Monastery which is also called Tiger’s Nest Monastery situated at the elevation of 3180 meters. The monastery hangs on the edge of a steep cliff which is 900 meters above the Paro Valley. It is believed that Guru Rinpoche (the second Buddha) flew on the back of a tigress and meditated for years where the monastery is built. A cafeteria restaurant situated in the halfway of the mountain is one of the highlights of the monastery. After lunch in the cafeteria, you will hike down to Paro. After relaxing for a short period of time and lunch, you will begin your sightseeing in Paro by visiting the National Museum called Ta Dzong; once a traditional watchtower. Next, you will visit the oldest temple in the country, Kichu Lakhang.

Flight Duration: 1 hour 

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Paro International Airport for your flight to Kathmandu. Upon arrival at Tribhuwan International Airport, our representative will greet you and escort you to your respective hotel. During the leisure time today, you can go shopping in the streets of Kathmandu city.
