Nagarkot and Changunarayan Hiking Tour is a perfect day hike for the short time travelers seeking out to take a break from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu valley. This excellent excursion on the outskirts of the Kathmandu valley is a perfect mixture of natural beauty, cultural beauty and adventure. The hiking begins from the popular hill-station, Nagarkot which is located 32 km east of the capital. Renowned for spectacular views of the majestic Himalayas, rolling hills, deep valleys and dense forests, it is a popular and the best viewpoint to observe the glorious sunrise and sunset over the magnificent snow-covered peaks. Himalayan ranges, namely Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Langtang, Jugal, Rolwaling, Everest and Numbur along with Kathmandu valley and Shivapuri National Park can be viewed from here.
The trail from Nagarkot to Changunarayan Temple is easy gradually descending through the terraced fields and Tamang Village. Encountering the locals along the trail provide the opportunity to gain the experience of the culture and lifestyle of them. Passing through deciduous forest with the Himalayas in the backdrop, the track takes you to the oldest temple of Nepal namely Changunarayan Temple. Built in around the 5th century, the temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is a sacred and important pilgrimage site for Hindu devotees.

You will be driven to Nagarkot early in the morning via Prithivi Highway. Upon arrival, you will relish the view of Himalayan ranges, such as Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Langtang as well as Mount Everest from far distance and start your hike towards Changunarayan Temple. You will walk through deciduous forest in an easy trail passing the Tamang and Newari settlements, terraced fields and traditional houses finally reaching to Changunarayan Temple. After sightseeing around this historic landmark, you will be driven back to the valley by the late afternoon.
