Nagarkot hilltop – at 2,175 m/ 7,136 ft, a quiet, green and scenic spot and once the fort to lookout external activities of other kingdoms and later summer retreat of the Royal families – now is one of the most famous tourist hill stations near Kathmandu. Nagarkot lies some 32 Km east of Kathmandu and offers one of broadest and most magnificent views of the Himalayas. That includes the Annapurna massif and Manasalu range in distant west, Ganesh Himal range in the west, close up view of Langtang and Dorje Lakpa in the centre. Further in the east Rolwaling range and even Mt. Everest (8,848 m/ 29,028 ft) as a small dot in the far-east is visible (viewed better from view-tower with the help of binocular). Sunrise and Sunset tour with a night stay, day hike/ day drive, picnicking are some major activities in this hill top.

This Day Hiking tour that includes ‘four hour hike’ starts with an hour drive to ancient Newari town of Sankhu – a valley located some 17 km north-east of Kathmandu. We come to your Hotel/place of residence to pick you up for a drive to Sankhu. And from here, you will walk with our Guide and Porter if required. In the evening enjoy the sunset view from Nagarkot, and drive back to your place.

Breakfast at your Hotel. And, be ready to embark for exhilarating day hike tour to Nagarkot with us.
Our Guide will pick you up at the Hotel/or place where you stay. And, drive to Sankhu for about one hour (If you are starting from Changunarayan temple drive may take one and half hour). This ancient town Sankhu is also known as Shankharapur due to its Conch (Shankha) shaped structure. Sankhu has cultural, religious, and historical importance in Nepal.
Begin hiking from Sankhu to Nagarkot. We walk pass farms, villages, and forest to reach Nagarkot. Enjoy cheerful life of farmers in the farm, village life, green landscapes, fresh air during walk. The last part is gentle uphill in the lush green forest. The hiking can be done by anyone with normal stamina of walking 4-6 hours.
You will have pack lunch for the day that our Guide will have for you. Reach Nagarkot Hilltop. You can enjoy the drinks/snacks.
Enjoy the Sunset view and then drive back to Kathmandu. Our guide will drop you at your Hotel or place of your residence.
Note: Nagarkot Day Hiking can alternatively be done from Changunarayan Temple, a UNESCO world heritage Hindu temple, located some 12 Km east of Kathmandu. The landscape is similar to the route from Sankhu with less forest and more village life.
