The Shivapuri Hiking Tour is and easy and exciting short hike to the second highest mountain among others surrounding the Kathmandu valley at the elevation of 2563m. Situated 12 kilometers away at the northern edge of the valley, Shivapuri National Park is the perfect destination to explore different species of flora, fauna and birds. Later declared as Shivapuri Watershed and Wildlife Reserve, it houses 177 species of birds including 9 endangered ones, 150 species of butterflies and 19 species of mammals. Some of the recorded mammalian species wildlife are Leopard, Himalayan Black Bear, Jungle Cat and Rhesus Monkey.
The hiking takes about 2 and half hours to reach the hilltop walking through the dense forest of pine, oak and rhododendron. The breathtaking view of Langtang ranges and Kathmandu valley are the highlight of this trip. The origin of the sacred Bagmati River and Bagdwar also can be observed from the summit. Nagi Gumba, a popular Buddhist monastery en route is another charm of this short hiking trip. Though this trip is short compared to others, it does not lack to provide you beautiful memories and experience.

Your guide will pick you up at the designated departure area and leave for Budhanilkhantha where you will have a short tea break. Further, you will drive for 5 more minutes to Army checkpoint (Shivapuri National Park entrance) and pay the conservation fee and begin your hike. You will walk through lush green forest and quite steep trail and reach the top of the Shivapuri which offers an expansive view of the ranges to the north. You will enjoy your packed lunch in the tranquil atmosphere with splendid views of the vast hills and landscapes. After spending plentiful amount of time there, you will descend back down via hidden Buddhist monastery, Nagi Gumba (2340), and reach the entrance. You will drive back to the center of the valley by the evening or late afternoon.
