Sun Koshi River Rafting is one of the most exciting rafting experiences in the finest river of Nepal. Rated as one of the top ten classic river expeditions in the world, rafting in Sun Koshi whitewater is the longest trip in river miles presented in Nepal. The “River of Gold” i.e. Sun Koshi originates from the Tibetan border as Bhote Koshi and flows until it meets the sacred Ganga River in India.
This 8 day whitewater adventure is an impressive, thrilling and exciting as each and every day of the trip is filled with ever changing scenery including lush green valleys, mountains, forests, and remote villages. Known for its unpredictable nature, Sun Koshi can be found as calm and serene at a moment and it changes into wild, violent and challenging at the very next moment. The river is famous for rafting circles and is the top choice for the intermediate and experiences rafters and kayakers.
Rafting in the whitewater of the Sun Koshi is a matter of thrill and delight and it is an ideal trip combined with tranquil and stunning scenery and bouncy and challenging rapids which provides the lifetime memories and experience.
What to Bring?
Kathmandu
Driving Duration: 3 hours
Early in the morning, you will drive to Dolalghat, the in-put on the Sun Koshi River. After short briefing from instructor about the journey, you will start the journey with few practice sessions and continue with the real rafting. You will encounter the first rapid i.e. Kooyeh Bhir. Once you reach the campsite, you will spend your time exploring the surrounding villages and surroundings.

After having your breakfast, you will get ready with your gears and set off to experience the first class 3 rapid, Meat Grinder. Avoiding the holes to the left and right, you will run straight down until you reach a confluence of Tama Koshi and Sun Koshi. You will get to pay a visit to a beautiful temple of Lord Shiva. Tent will be set up for a night at the bank of the river.

Today, you will continue your rafting journey below the confluence of Likhu Khola. You will hit a short class 3+ rapid followed by a long class 4 rapid namely Pre-anxiety and High-anxiety respectively. Later, you set your tent at a sandy beach and spend the rest of the night with warm dinner, sweet chats with the teammates along with campfire.

On the fourth day, you will notice the canyon getting narrower and vegetation getting thicker. You will experience several thrills of class 3+ rapids. You will move ahead tackling the rapids, enjoying the whitewater and halt at a campsite near a small village named Harkapur. If time permits, you may visit the local tea shops in the village.

As usual, you will start with warm breakfast and get into water after everything is prepared. You will encounter the biggest rapid today. The Harkapur II and Harkapur III are the hardest rapids throughout your journey. After an hour and a half of floating downstream, you will encounter the confluence of the Sun Koshi and the Dudh Koshi. As you raft downstream, you will notice the valley broadening. You will run into a number of small rapids and stop near Rasuwa Khola and set the tent there.

Today is the hardest day of this rafting journey as you will encounter Class IV+ rapids. You will hit the Rhino Rock and Jungle Corridor. The beautiful waterfall tumbling down from both sides of the river will melt your heart. You will spend the night in a tented camp on the beach of the river.

The rafting journey in the whitewater of Sun Koshi is in the verge of ending. If you are interested in Kayaking, you may try with the help of instructors as they will help you with the basic skills for manipulating the boat. As usual, you will spend the night at the tented camp.

The last day of this expedition welcomes you with some small rapids. You will experience some Class IV rapids called Big Dipper. As you flow downwards you will reach a confluence of Arun, Tamor and Sun Koshi to form Saptakoshi (Seven Koshis). After lunch, the trip ends at Chatara and you will drive to BIratnagar Airport for the flight to Kathmandu.
