Sun Koshi River – originates from Tibet and flows down in the Nepal’s mountainous regions – is one of the tributaries of Saptakoshi or popularly known as Koshi River of the eastern Nepal.  Sun Koshi river rafting is one of the longest rafting trip in Nepal with the most fascinating rapids, camps sites, scenery, and warmth. This approximately 210 km long rafting trip in the wild white river that flows into the plain from the mountain definitely will be the most exciting trip for you.

You drive to Dolalghat, 57 kms from Kathmandu and rafting put in point, in the Arniko Highway that connects Kathmandu with Tibet. And, you finishes in the southern plain of Nepal after ten days in the river crossing various rapids, villages, towns, and camps.

Itinerary

Day 01: Kathmandu – Drive Dolalghat – Rafting to Tarang Gaon

Breakfast in your Hotel/place of residence and then depart for thrilling bus ride in the mountain highway and rafting in the Himalayan white water. This 56 km drive from Kathmandu to Dolalghat takes about 2.5-3 hours. The drive passes through scenic mountainous terrain and view of the Himalayan peaks. Dolalghat is the rafting put in point. From here, you raft short distance to Tarang Gaon and Overnight stay in the Camp.  

Day 02: Tarang Gaon Camp – Raft to Dumja (Rafting around 4 hours)

You slowly take the momentum of the River Rafting in Sun Koshi river. Today’s total rafting time is about four hours. Soon you begin your day, the first rapid you encounter is named Khuei Bhir/Kooyeh Bhir – strewn with rocks and boulders. Our camp is located near the Hindu temple of the god Shiva – Mahadev temple.

Day 03: Dumja – Raft to Khunkot (Rafting approx 6 hours)

Today’s Rafting trip is of approximately six hours and passing some interesting sights around including fishing village of Kodari, and Chamera Bhir full of bats. There are some fun filled rapids for the day. Overnight stay in the Camp.

Day 04: Khunkot – Raft to Likhu Khola (Rafting approx 5 hours)

You continue rafting to Likhu Khola. In this region villages get thinner and habitations dwindle. We pass few villages and the day is with good photo prospects with magnificent landscapes.  

Day 05: Likhukhola – Harkapur (Rafting approx 6 hours)

Today you raft from Likhukhola to Harkapur with some serious rapids such as at Bat Cave. Width of the river in this valley section  keep changing. We camp in the beautiful sandy beach for today.

Day 06: Harkapur – Rai Ghat (Rafting approx 6 hours)

It is one of the most demanding days of the trip with some rapids where Guide and crew showcase their skills. Today you raft through ‘Bridge rapid’, ‘Krishna rapid’. You will carefully cross ‘MANGAL Rapid’ named after Mangal Gurung who first rafted in the Sun Koshi river in 1979. Lately, you will go over ‘roller coaster’ – a hair rising rapid.

Day 07: Rai Ghat to Bander Ghat (Rafting approx 6 hours)

The rapids and challenges as well as excitement has not come to an end. Today you experience the rapids like ‘Huge Holes’, and ‘Stopper Waves’. All these actions demand extraordinary team work, and coordination among the crew and yourselves to paddle safe down to the camp. The rafting time is approximately six hours.

Day 08: Bander Ghat to Bonjur Ghat (Rafting approx 6 hours)

Today you raft from Bander Ghat to Bojnur Ghat Camp. Prior to lunch, you play with some beautiful rapids – busy all the morning sincerely. After the lunch break, you reach to the section where Mardheku gorge emerges, then the river spreads wide, less aggressive.

Day 09: Bonjur Ghat to Barahchhetra (Rafting approx 6 hours)

Sun Koshi river flows now with mixture of fun-filled rapids and calm rolling floats. You spend around six hours in the river today as well rafting down to the Barahchhetra. This place is one of the most famous Hindu pilgrimage sites located in the confluence of Koka and Sun Koshi river.

Day 10: Barahchhetra – Short Rafting to Chatara – Drive Kathmandu/Fly Back

From Barahchhetra you raft short to Chatara. After lunch drive to Kathmandu night transfer/bus. Or you can drive to Biratnagar to take a flight back to Kathmandu/or next destination.
